Update: August 11 Meeting (corrected)

The Allegan County Board of Commissioners meeting on August 11, 2016 included the topic of revised assessment role for the dam replacement.

Residents from Miner Lake expressed their ongoing concern with both the plan and management of the project. The attorney for the Drain Commissioner indicated all of the questions had been answered at the August 1 meeting the only viable and cost effective plan is the one they have presented. They also indicated much of the increased cost was a result of the litigation around easements and some design changes to the road that occurred as a concession to property owners.

The discussion among the commissioners raised a question/concern that 2/3rds of the commissioners were required to approve funding sought under the full faith and credit of the county. The August 11 meeting did not include enough commissioners, so the topic was tabled until the August 25 meeting.

The discussion also included concern that the commissioners did not have authority to supersede the work of the Drain Commissioner. If they were to not extend the full faith and credit of the county, it would likely result in finance charges significantly higher than what would be offered with it.

These topics would be investigated in the interim and further discussed on August 25.
