Notice: Scheduled Treatment of Invasive Plants June 2023

The treatment is scheduled for Monday, June 5, 2023.
The map below reflects the planned treatment areas. The treatment area this year is significantly smaller than the initial treatment in 2021 and varies from the 2022 treatment area.

It is targeting Eurasian Milfoil and Starry Stonewort. There was concern that we had expanded the treatment to include targeting other plants, but that is not the case. The presence of Curly Leaf Pond Weed was noted, but it is not being treated as that plant is expected to die back in the warm summer water.

Residents in or near the treated areas will receive notice on the day of treatment. Signs will be posted along the shoreline within 100 feet of treatment areas that indicate what products were used and specific water use restrictions that apply.

Use Restrictions

The use restrictions are not widespread, but the advised restrictions include:
Swimming is 1-day restriction (running through Friday, June 6, 2023)
Watering of Turf (lawns) has no restriction
Watering of Ornamentals (plants and vegetables) are dependent on measured levels at 1ppb (part per billion) or less

Water samples will be collected within 6-8 days following application. The samples will be tested to determine if any measurable amount of the treatment remains. Testing takes approximately 5-7 days to complete.

Notice of test results will be posted on the association website as soon as they are known www.minerlake.org – likely 2 weeks following treatment.

Based on prior experience (PLM has applied these treatments many hundreds of times) we expect the samples to indicate ‘no detectable traces’. This mean the plans have absorbed much of the treatment, and the remaining has been diluted to less than 1ppb.

However, we caution residents to refrain from watering plants and vegetables until the results are confirmed.

The approved treatments PLM will be applying were selected for their proven track record, minimal usage restrictions, and overall cost. They include:

Copper Sulfate – treatment for Starry Stonewort
Florpyrauxifen-benzyl (ProcellaCOR) – treatment for Eurasian Milfoil.

We encourage residents to make note of presence of these plants early in the season so you can help inform us of their effectiveness throughout the summer season.

One Response

  1. Water in our channel has cleared but this is allowing more sun and the weed growth is as bad as ever.
