We have received notice from the Allegan County Drain Commissioner of a special assessment meeting to be held at the Allegan County Courthouse on August 1, 2016 at 10:00 am. The meeting will be in the jury court room to accommodate the anticipated number of attendees.

The notice was to be published in the local papers earlier this week, but a copy was provided to Miner Lake leaders and can be viewed below.

Miner Lake Special Assessment 8-1-2016 – Extra Cost for Dam

We received separate notice that work was to begin on constructing the new control structure last week, but we were advised that work was halted until the special hearing could be held to address cost overages related to the project. These extra costs are a result of a number of factors including:

– Legal fees related to easements and disputes related to the project
– Adjustments to the plan regarding the proposed access road
– Potential adjustment of costs from the contractor due to changes in the plan and possible delays

We understand the costs have exceeded the contingencies included in the original project and the Drain Commissioner needs to seek additional funding authority to proceed. This hearing is to address that matter.

We strongly encourage Miner Lake residents to participate in this process, understand the details and have your voice heard in regard to the additional cost(s). The determination of role and additional assessment will be addressed at this meeting on Aug. 1. You also have the ability to contact the Drain Commissioners office directly, but we recommend attending in person if at all possible.

Please note entry to the courthouse includes passing through a metal detector, so please plan accordingly and allow a few extra minutes.
