There has been some confusion about the position of the Allegan County Health Department’s position related to the need for sewer at Miner Lake as well as the options for on-site sewage treatment. So, the Association Leadership requested Bill Hinz (Director Allegan County Health Dept.) to clarify the issue.

You can read his letter for yourself, but the essence of his communication is that the department firmly believes that sewer is the best option for the future of Miner Lake and its residents. Additionally, the health department has had a history of allowing exceptions, variances or leniency in regard to the defined standards for on-site Water and Sewage Treatment – that is no longer be the case for Miner Lake. So, if a parcel is able to meet the published standards then a permit will be allowed – otherwise the parcel would very likely be required to pump and haul.

This policy will undoubtedly impact the ability of home owners to build new structures on their property an/or significant remodeling. The Allegan County Health Department is taking this issue and their responsibilities very seriously and it is important for the residents of Miner Lake to understand that. They have advised our residents to contact them if they are aware of a septic system that is not functioning correctly and/or is causing a public health issue (269) 673-5411.
