Along with this unusually warm weather, we have seen more boaters than normal for mid-March. We all welcome the opportunity to get back on the water, but one word of caution – the lake is still at the winter level.

This means that there is at least one foot less water than in the summer months. So, the shallow spots are that much closer to you…

If you are not familiar with the shallow spots, the Google satellite image (below) can be helpful in revealing the potential danger areas. The image that is currently on Google is a late-fall image, and the current water level is approximately the same.  We actually have a laminated copy printed out and in our boat…

Enjoy this special treat and do your best to not regret it. Oh, and don’t tell anyone else, but I’m hearing the lake temp (surface) is already into the mid 60’s.

The lake level is normally lower until mid-May, but if the weather remains good, we will ask the drain commissioner to place the boards earlier (it can be done as soon as May 1).
