If you have been out to the lake, you will notice that the lake level is very high — almost to the level it was this spring!
The Allegan Co. Drain Commissioner is very much aware of the lake level, and their office has been working over the past couple weeks to get the lake down to the winter level. According to the court order, they can remove the 1ft of dam between Oct. 15 and Nov. 15. In preparation for the downstream drain repairs, they began letting water out, but the rainfall resulted in additional flooding downstream.
At present, approximately half of the “boards” are removed from the dam (6 inches), but that is of little impact because the lake level is far above the dam itself.
The plan is to continue allowing the water to leave Miner Lake at a controlled rate. Once the lake returns to the winter level (1 ft below summer), then work will begin on the downstream drain repairs. To help accommodate their work, the boards may occasionally be placed back to allow the creek level to lower, but the expectation is that the lake will be monitored and kept at or near the winter level during this process.
