The effort to define the sewer project for Miner Lake has been a lengthy and complex process. I appreciate the ongoing encouragement from the community, and additional support over the past few months from a team of 6+ volunteers on the Sewer Task Force has been a game-changer!
Through all of this, the Township is uniquely positioned to help us define a clear project design and understand the options and likely costs. They have been a great partner and as recently as September the Township passed two resolutions further supporting our goal of reaching a clear project plan and understanding of overall project costs. But they need to hear from you directly!
The Miner Lake Sewer Task Force was preparing to provide a community update when we received news of an accelerated 12/31 reporting timeline for the ARPA funds the Township had committed to our project. The funds do not need to be spent by the end of the year, but they do need to be fully committed.
The Task Force, members of the Township Board, and our engineers worked vigorously to establish a plan. We successfully drafted a plan that complies with the ARPA requirements!
However, the Township Board is expressing some newfound concern about the commitment of our residents to a successful sewer project. So, this is where we need your help!
The Allegan Township Board needs to hear from you!
Please take a few minutes to call, email, or stop by the Allegan Township office in the next day or two. The board is making critical decisions in the next week that will impact the viability of this project.
Let them know how you feel about the importance of the sewer project and how you value their continued partnership and support.

Things we’ve heard from others that might help when you make your voice heard!
- “This matters to me because _______”
- “The full project plan will help me make an informed decision”
- “We support (or don’t support) this project”
- “We cannot go on with our existing system and there are no other good options”
- “We should have done this years ago, but it will only get more expensive”
- “Thank you for the continued support of this project!”

Also, you may notice we also launched the updated website…
There may still be a few bugs to work out, but overall the site is functioning well and should be a HUGE improvement on what we had before.
Don’t get distracted from the task above (please, please) but stop back later to visit some of the other pages, including the footer section where we will include links to documents such as meeting minutes and historical water quality reports.
What is the plan and what type of sewer is being considered? Why all of a sudden is everything being rushed with no plan being put forward to the residence’s? In my opinion there is no sense of direction for the project and how you commit without knowing the financial plans and the drawings on what is the route of the sewer.
Tom –
We are not asking people to commit without knowing the financial plan! These are complex projects and this is work to make sure we can bring the clear costs and designs to residents.
We are asking for the same thing.
I believe this project has been put off for way to long and now at my age I can no longer support it. Project could have been completed back in the 70′ s for a reasonable price but now those days are over.
We support the project and are grateful for the work of the committee’s and township. We will await further information.
Please see the new post on the Miner Lake site related to a Township Board Special meeting for tomorrow (12/19) and the impact on this project.

We don’t need this if everyone would just take care of their own system . Plus pump n haul is way cheaper to install then this idea of hooking up to a sewer system!! I’d rether have natural gas run out here .
David, I agree with you in principle, however, we have demonstrated that the constraints of limited lot sizes and poor soils result in the overwhelming majority of the systems on Miner Lake requiring Health Department variances to be installed (if they even have a record to begin with… (see the image https://minerlake.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Age-of-Existing-Septic-Systems.png).
As for pump and haul, do you currently use that option, or know any full-time residents who do?
All facts I’ve gathered demonstrate pump and haul is not a cost-effective option for a year-round household. It will not take very long before you will have paid for the cost of installing sewer!
A sewer project will include utility easements and make the option for natural gas possible.
Well all I got to say is it should be up to the individual as to chose pump n haul them self. There are ways to fix broken down septic systems far less then what is proposed. Again why should others with a perfect good system be forced to pay for others peoples problems.. again the minority trying to impose on the majority.
