ALLEGAN— Allegan Township is considering developing a walking trail from the city of Allegan’s north side to near Miner Lake.
Supervisor Steve Schulz said officials are considering purchasing rights-of-way along the old Allegan-to-Grand Rapids railbed between 118th and 122nd avenues, a distance of more than two miles.
“I’ve started to make contacts with farmers who own the property along the right-of-way,“ Schulz said.
When the railroads operated, Schulz said, the right-of-way was 99 feet. The township is looking at using 30 to 40 feet.
Schulz said that if the idea looks feasible the township may write a grant application for money. Due date would be April 1, he said.
