Over the past several weeks, many Miner Lake property owners have spent time reviewing information, attending the Spring meeting, asking questions, and discussing the proposed Special Assessment District with neighbors and Task Force members. We appreciate the thoughtful engagement from everyone involved.

Because we are still receiving questions from residents who are working through their decision, we have decided to extend the petition signature deadline by one week. The petition will now remain open through end of day Tuesday, June 16, 2026, and the determination of the petition will be submitted to the Allegan Township Clerk before the close of business on June 17, 2026.

This is an important decision for our community. The proposed sewer project could affect how individual properties are used in the future, while also influencing the long-term health and stewardship of Miner Lake itself. Given the significance of the decision, we believe it is reasonable to allow a little more time for property owners to understand their options and make an informed choice.

For more than two years, the Task Force has been gathering information, evaluating alternatives, meeting with agencies and consultants, and sharing what we have learned with the community. While no amount of time will answer every question, an additional week gives residents a final opportunity to seek clarification and weigh the information before the petition is submitted.

At the same time, we do need to keep the process moving forward. The original June 10 deadline was selected to provide Allegan Township officials and legal counsel enough time to review the petitions and complete the required public meetings and legal steps necessary to stay on track for potential 2027 funding and construction timelines. Those reviews can take three months or more. Extending the deadline by one week still leaves more than three months for that process while allowing a bit more time for community input.

Regardless of where individual property owners stand on the petition, we recognize that this decision matters deeply to many residents. We appreciate the respectful conversations that have taken place throughout this process and the patience shown by everyone involved.

We will post another update before the petition is submitted to the Allegan Township Clerk next Wednesday. We recognize that many of our residents are seasonal or may not be in the area while we are physically collecting signatures. You have the opportunity to complete this process digitally.

Thank you for understanding and being active participants in this process.
